Special TPD Day Observed

10369917_399361763536799_2728344652972141106_n24 May 2014: The school office under the guidance of PDP initiative by DoE, a professional development day was organised for the teachers of Gangkyi Petoen and lower Petoen School. A total of 30 teachers took part in the workshop. The workshop was a school based in which resources persons were the teachers from our own school. Mr. Tenzin Dorjee, Principal of the 10416998_399361503536825_8288198622367941370_nschool in his introductory remark welcomed the teachers and talked about the background of Teacher’s Professional Development and its importance. Mr. Samdup la, Primary teacher gave talk on the different aspects of education (Traditional and Modern), Mrs. Kunga Tsomo la, Pre-Primary teacher gave demonstration on Importance of Cleanliness for the Pre-Primary Kids and Mrs. Tenzin Choedon la (TGT), gave presentation on Teaching Strategies and Co-operative teaching through hands-on activities.
10401461_399361590203483_462339649435163000_nIn the afternoon, an informal interaction was organised to discuss and share the experience gathered so far regarding the Teacher’s individual growth plan. The school Principal at the end gave presentation on Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Theory, Meaning of Education and activities 1901379_399362060203436_909691856966051152_nbeing carried in the school in accordance with BEP. The school Principal applauded the sincere effort and determination put in by the teachers so far and requested them to carry on the legacy of hard work to bring positive changes in the society.
An orientation for teachers of both upper and lower Petoen School was held at Sambhota Model School, Gangkyi. During the orientation programme, teacher’s professional growth plan was thoroughly discussed. Six groups were formed in which teachers actively took part in the discussion. They came out with some good ideas and plan for the academic session. Atleast two Professional development days will be held in this academic session in which one teacher each from Pre-primary, Primary and Middle Section will be resource person for the day. Besides these teachers will share their action plan of their individual professional growth.
Teacher Professional Development

pe pettAn orientation programme on Teacher Professional Development was held on 7th March 2014 at Sambhota Model School, Gangkyi in which 33 teachers including Principal and Headmistress of both upper and lower Petoen School took part. During the programme, teachers were divided into groups of five and collectively read the Teacher Professional Development Framework and Guidelines. The groups came up with different feedbacks. Following conclusions were made for this session to begin with:

All the teachers from Pre-primary to Secondary level are directed to prepare one Individual Professional Growth Plan for this academic session. The plan has to be submitted by the end of March 2014.

Two Professional Development Days will be organised during the academic session 2014. First on 24th May and the second on 25th October, 2014. During these two days, in the morning, a teacher from each level, i.e. one each from Pre-primary, Primary and Secondary level will conduct workshops for the rest of the teachers on topics related to teaching strategies, classroom management, collaborative learning, etc. In the afternoon, teachers will share their 3-month experiences on individual growth plan.

  1. NatGeo related activities:

NatGeo Explorer group of teachers, namely, Mr. Lobsang Tsering, Mrs. Tenzin Choedon and Ms. Tenzin Kyizom are holding 1 hour class on Friday and Saturday every week.

During the 1 hour classes, teachers provide help in understanding the NatGeo Explorer Magazine and keep notes. They also write poems, unfamiliar words for vocabulary building, drawing pictures of animals, etc. They also learn about animals through Encarta Dictionary as an extended learning.

Children will be shown National Geographic Channel once a week related to NatGeo Explorer.

The teachers will organize NatGeo Explorer Presentation on 9th May 2014 and NatGeo Quiz on 13th June 2014.

  1. To promote reading habits among the children:Four teachers are deputed to look after and guide the children during reading days. Mr. Lobsang Tsreing and Mr. Dawa Tsering are guiding the children during Tibetan Book Reading day on Monday and Mrs. Tenzin Choedon and Ms. Tenzin Kyizom are guiding the children during English Book Reading day on Tuesday.

They will organize World Book Day on 23 April, 2014.

They will also organize children’s presentations (Book Review) as a result of book reading after an interval of three months each.
